Today, I went to a café to read and study, though perhaps those were just excuses to enjoy some coffee. Before moving to my current apartment, I hadn’t had the chance to savor good coffee at a nice café for quite a while. My recent move made it easy to explore various neighborhoods, and now I can casually visit cities with plenty of non-chain cafés. While coffee hasn’t always been my favorite drink (and still isn’t fully), the café’s iced decaf is delicious, especially when paired with cheesecake.
I ordered a non-decaf iced Ethiopian blend because the decaf version is also an Ethiopian blend, so I assumed it would be nice. Unfortunately, my assumption was wrong. Moreover, the cheesecake was sold out. The café wasn’t thoroughly cleaned, and my allergies worsened as the floor shook with each step someone took. The early summer heat filled the air, aggravating my asthma. Despite all this, I managed to finish reading two books. One of them was The Heart of Evil, which was recommended by a former colleague. I wanted to read the e-book in Japanese, but only the English version was available. I’m progressing at about 1% a day, currently at 8%. This challenging work is teaching me what reading in English truly involves and how to express ideas logically in the language. Do I regret it? About 20% yes, 80% no.
